Keeping up with Jake in December

Back in October, we held auditions and cast talented actors for a play that hadn’t yet been written. Fast forward to today, and while the play still doesn’t have a title, we’re thrilled to announce that the first draft is nearly complete!

For the uninitiated, a first draft is like taking all your random scribbles, brainstorms, and half-baked ideas and turning them into something that resembles a play. Picture your early notes as a pile of construction materials — wood, plasterboard, and maybe a random sink.

A first draft is when that chaotic pile starts to look like a house.

Last week, we had our first “walkthrough.” The cast, director, designers, dramaturge, composer and office crew gathered for a workshop to explore what we’ve built so far.

We found some great flow and exciting potential, along with a few walls where windows should be. But the foundations are solid, and the second draft won’t need a full redesign (thank goodness — it’s nearly impossible to get tradies over summer!)
