A November to remember November 30th, 2025 This month I’ve been deep in rehearsals for Balloon Dog, and I’m remembering why this stage of the process is one of my favourites. It’s when this thing that’s been a mirage for nearly two years finally becomes real. All the back-and-forth emails, research interviews, Zoom calls, script dissections, writing sessions, design workshops, music composition, dance choreography and puppet construction suddenly morph into this beautiful fever dream we call rehearsal. For me as an actor, the script I’ve been clutching for months starts to seep into my body and the character begins to show up — cautiously at first, like a shy flatmate, then with increasing confidence. Once the words settle and I can finally put the script down, that’s when the real work begins: the work of play. We’re chasing that impossible thing — making each moment truly alive — and like most worthwhile things, it’s simple… just not easy. We’re still shaping Balloon Dog, gently but with growing confidence. It’s early days, but something is definitely lifting — that lovely moment when a new show takes its first buoyant breath and considers floating out into the world. With this preview season SOLD OUT, keep your eyes peeled and tail wagging for when we tour around New Zealand in 2026, 2027 and 2028!
