Sweet September

Keeping up with Jake in SeptemberGiant vulture puppet with spread wings perched on a reclining performer in a red patterned costume.

If you’ve been keeping up with my scribblings you’ll know that the last time I was in Christchurch I had my heart checked out by a specialist, Dr Clive Lowe, and got the all clear.

Unfortunately I took Clive’s: “Keep doing what you’re doing” to mean “Eat everything you’ve been avoiding”, and a recent blood test has deemed me to be pre-diabetic.

In my defence, the last 4 months has seen me on tour where “eating healthy” is seen as weakness by the crew and it’s very hard to find/eat a post-show salad. Added to that is the fact that I’m an Indian raised in the West – a cactus in a rainforest if you will.

My body’s tolerance for burgers, fried chicken and pizza is sub-optimal at the best of times. However, I’m determined to stave off the family curse of diabetes.

Once this Ōtautahi season of Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream is done no more ice cream will pass these lips!
