March Mischief March 31st, 2026 The Butterfly Effect: the phenomenon whereby a tiny shift in one place can ripple out and make a huge difference in another. I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to apply this term from chaos theory to Indian Ink’s annual pilgrimage with our Next Genners to Butterfly House. Once again, patron and former board member Chrissie Fernyhough, generously opened the doors to her remarkable holiday home perched overlooking the beautiful Mangawhai Heads. Chrissie’s exquisite taste has transformed what was once a modest, albeit spacious, Kiwi bach into a stunningly curated collection of Kiwiana including themed bedrooms and living spaces that elicited collective gasps from our Next Gen cohort. After we gently restored their eyes to their sockets, we settled in for a weekend of yoga, waiata, theatre workshops, deep dives into creativity (and the nearby bay), communal cooking and eating, interspersed with quiet contemplation while sighing at the view. Inspired by Chrissie’s piece of paradise, little snippets of site-specific theatre were created. Who knows what inklings of future projects these might inspire? Thank you, Chrissie, for providing the chrysalis – the Butterfly Effect indeed.
