I just had the pleasure of chatting with the brilliant Rosabel Tan, who’s been commissioned by Playmarket to write the introduction to an anthology celebrating South and East Asian playwrights. It’s going to feature Krishnan’s Dairy – yep, the little play that started it all.

Talking to Rosabel took me straight back to 1996, when Justin and I were figuring out how to turn a dairy into a monument to love and pay for lunch at the same time. I remember the terror of that first showing (would anyone even come?), and the amazement when people not only came, but kept coming.

Now, almost thirty years later, I’m about to walk into the workshop room for INK’s 12th play (how did that happen?).

It’s a strange and beautiful thing to look back at where we began – two wide-eyed wannabes with a story to tell – and realise we’re still doing it. Still risking it. Still laughing at our own jokes. Still crying in rehearsals. Still trying to make something honest and magical to share with you.

Funny how those first steps can echo all the way down the road.
