Dirty Work is your chance to have a highly enjoyable performing experience without actually having to act or spend hours in a rehearsal room.

This “serious comedy” about finding joy in the eternal grind of work contains seven songs arranged by NZ composers for piano-accompanied choir: ‘Ode to Joy’, ‘The Humming Chorus’, ‘Sur le pont d’Avignon’, Kiwi numbers ‘Royals’ and ‘Something in the water’, an Indian work song and a waiata.

Dirty Work is a brand-new play by Indian Ink, the company that created the phenomenally successful Krishnan’s Dairy. In this new work, three professional actors are joined on stage by a different choir every night. Singers have rehearsed the music but have no idea of the story until they sit on stage at the open-plan desks of a modern office, ready to be guided through the night by the actors.

Singers will learn the music together, under the direction of John Rosser and Ben Kubiak, in just three rehearsals. The arrangements aren’t difficult and there will be a learning guide for singers to practise with.

Auckland rehearsals are as follows:

  • Sunday 28 August, 3.00–6.00pm
  • Sunday 11 September, 3.00–6.00pm
  • Saturday 17 September, 3.00–6.00pm

There are ten public shows, from 22 September to 2 October 2022 (omitting Monday 26) at The Auckland Performing Arts Centre (TAPAC).

We’ll put together small choirs of around 20 people from the full group, so each singer will only be asked to perform – according to their availability – between one and three times during the season.

Singers can register interest/sign up by emailing their name, phone number, choir and voice type to intern@indianink.co.nz and the team will get straight back to you.
